Congratulations to Eric L. for his victory in a large game on Friday. His comments were "The Browns will win the AFC North in 2011/12". I dont know about that, but I will make sure that I keep the grease handy. It seems from the title of this game, I will need to use the grease on the door jams to get Eric's head back downstairs for another game!!!You know in poker, we use decks of cards, right? We have been running this game for over six years, so as you can imagine, we have went through a lot of decks of cards. After the first year or so, we started buying plastic decks. They last much longer, so even at $7 per deck, they were a better deal. We have also found that there are good and bad plastic cards. In the last 6 months or so, some of our players have been helping us out with the cards. They find deals and the BOHICA will buy some. Bear in mind that the BOHICA is buying the water, chips, pretzels, M&M's and Cards from the donations - which are on average less than $1 per player per week. So, of course we look for deals on cards. Some of the "deals" we got weren't so good - a few of the decks we have noticed a "bleeding" on them. What I beleive happened to these decks is that they were in a hot storage area for too long because we have seen the spots of the previous card on the back of the next card. For example, the 6 spade symbols can be faintly seen on the back of the 7 of spades, because they were stored in order. The reason I am writing all this is because we had a "discussion" over this with a couple of new players. One of the decks in play had these faint markings. (They truly are really faint - it takes some good eyes to see them - but of course, once you do you know they are there!) As soon as this was noticed, the deck was immediately replaced. (I try to check the decks, but it is really hard to see and I am not always the one getting the new decks.) Nothing too outrageous - albeit a little dramatic - but the BOHICA was accused of "cheating" with these cards. First and foremost, cheating is prohibited at the BOHICA - by anyone, including ME or Sandy - and is reason for immediate removal from the game. Secondly, although the situation was explained to non-comprehending new players, several of them were refunded their money and asked not to return to the BOHICA.Now, I have decided to remove all the cards from the storage area and purchase new decks. I have also decided to let you all know this and ask that you remember it the next time you are here and the pumpkin is passed. The BOHICA can't afford this investment - so I will make it. Remember also that Sandy and myself host this game because we enjoy playing poker and seeing many varying people. And by varying people we mean non-assholes - we have seen enough of those people. We have fun with it - we don't make money from it. (Sandy does sometimes, but me - it has been a long time!) And we certainly do not cheat. I normally do no mention the head count, but the payouts were announced for 38 players and that is what was paid out - even though several gotten their money refunded. I go to great lengths (and sometimes expense) to take the high road on these issues. And always will.We are on for another game this Friday - January 21, 2011 - at 7:30 PM. You can check the stats and RSVP for Friday at:http://www.TechnoBiz.net/PokerLooking forward to seeing lots of non-assholes here! Till then . . .PLAY WELL!!!Tim614-206-5524614-775-9066
